A long-standing
tradition
Segusino’s Nativity Scene was born in the Sixties, when it was first set up inside the Parish Church. In 1986, from an idea of a group of friends together with the parish priest of the time, Don Odilio Longhin, the Nativity Scene evolved into the “Artistic Nativity Scene of Segusino” and was moved to its present location: the former chaplain’s house, near the Parish Church of Segusino.
The Nativity Scene represents a typical setting of the Veneto region in the twenties, forties and sixties with great attention to detail and, every two or three years, approximately a third of the scenes are rebuilt.
Nativity statues
The statue of Baby Jesus comes from the Holy Land while the statues of the Holy Family, which are 90 years old, arrived in Segusino after the First World War in wooden boxes and over time have been restored and maintained in the Nativity Scene.
Most of the remaining characters represent real people who once lived in Segusino. They are handmade by Mauro Marcato, an artist from Padua who creates them in terracotta starting from the person’s photo.
When to visit the Nativity Scene
The Nativity Scene of Segusino is open to the public from Christmas until the first Sunday of February. After that, it is possible to book private visits until the end of August when the Nativity is closed for the construction of new scenes.
Sundays and holidays: from 9.00am to 12.00pm and from 2.00pm to 7.00pm
Holidays: from 2:30pm to 7.00pm
Weekdays (until January 6) from 2.30 p.m. to 7.00 p.m.
Weekdays (after January 6) from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
